Our school library is open during the school year from 8:00 until 3:00 every weekday. Every child visits the library for checkout on an as needs basis, typically once a week. Students in kindergarten through fifth grades usually check out two books per week. PreK checks out only one book every two weeks. Students in first through fifth grade self checkout using a library card they receive in the beginning of the year or using their student ID. Kindergarten begins self checkout in January.
All students have access to materials for research and projects. They can check out up to 10 research related materials. Books are due two weeks from the date checked out. Students are responsible for keeping track of when books are due. They have access to their circulation information to check when books are due and can ask in the library for that information as well. Emails will be sent to parents when students have overdue books and teachers are given overdue notices.
Students will be involved in lessons, activities, and projects applying Information Literacy, and Digital Literacy and the ISTE Standards within the grade level content standards used with the classroom curriculum and the IB Programme of Inquiry (POI).
The Semper library has been awarded the Highly Effective School Library badges by the Colorado Department of Education. Click HERE for more information.
We share several high quality books including Newbery, Caldecott, and Colorado Children's Book Awards. If you have questions, please feel free to call or stop by the library.
